Pierre de Fermat (1601 - 1665) was a French mathematician who made fundamental contributions to number theory, probability theory, analytic geometry and early development of infinitesimal calculus. The celebrated Fermat's last theorem, Fermat's (little) theorem, Fermat numbers, and Fermat primes are named after him.
